MVP Loot Proximity

  1. 1. Should we adopt the old ERO MVP loot mechanic: MVP Loot Proximity?

    • Adopt old eRO MVP loot behavior. Loot drops on ground if highest DPSer is not nearby when the MVP dies.
    • Keep default rAthena autoloot behavior. Loot teleports into highest DPSer's inventory, regardless of where they are on the map when the MVP dies.

Regarding MVP Loot Proximity.

The 1 week deferral period is almost over. What did you guys think of that system vs the old system?

As a reminder:

  • MVP Loot Proximity = loot drops on ground or goes to next highest loot proirity player (usually highest dps-er )if the highest dpser is not nearby when the mvp dies.
  • Default: how normal auto loot works. highest loot priority player (usually highest dps-er) gets the item teleported into their inventory if autoloot is on, regardless of where they are on the map.

old eRO had MVP loot proximity. which is why we were trying it out. It gives priority reward system to the PvPer as opposed to the MvPer when there's an MVP being contested via PVP.

MVPVP makes no sense if a guild wastes manpower in a PVP squad to contest if the first group's DPS does 75% of the damage and flywings/teleports around the map to avoid being killed. You may as well turn off PVP on MVP maps and make it a DPS race, except if the other team's late by a minute, that's a minute of lost DPS. With default behavior, there's literally no point in contesting MVPs, because to properly contest, you have to heal up the MVP to deal damage to it and heal it up again to do more DPS while keeping the other DPS away to prevent them from getting more of a lead or finalizing the kill, or consistently make MVPing impossible for the first team until they straight-up abandon the target and leave the map.

This doesn't encourage competition, which shoots PVP on MVP maps in the foot. +1 old eRO behavior.

Dropping loot on the ground is a bad idea so default rAthena behavior is just the better option.

Ultimately the MVP loot should go to the people that did the work of MVPing. The ero loot option allows for pvpers to come in last minute and essentially take what they didn't deserve. It also doesn't give a chance, time wise, for the MVPers to counter the PVPers if they did show up last minute to take the MVP.

In short, rAthena system, benefits the MVPers as it should and as Rei stated above there already exists counter play so it isn't just a first come first serve system. No need to fix what ain't broken, ya?

+1  a few reason you would contest an mvp, 1) you want to prevent other party from obtaining certain items 2) you want those items for yourself. A contesting party will need to bring mvp killers - hence they are prepped for the mvp.

So then you ask why people join and dont stay, think about this kind of changes.

I will say no to this.

Why wouldn't you be on time to an MvP spawn to begin with? If a group is there long enough to do 75% of an MvP's health then yeah, I'd say they deserve the MvP.

Let's be honest. This change drastically favors established guilds -  probably the last group of people this server needs to pander to right now. This change favors groups that can bring a surplus of PK groups to stonewall any outside attempts. As it stands now, smaller groups can contest with the right set up. It becomes pretty hopeless with this change and becomes a numbers game more than anything.

+1, the point to having mvps in a pvp enabled map is to contest for the drops. Not to have tea parties and hi5's each other.

thanks, needed to the direct quote for my statement:

Let’s take a crayon and draw it out for you:

the account is banned, the punishment is still applied to this day. read the pretty red print above the statement you quoted. You’re  probably smart enough to know this you just lack the integrity to apply the logic correctly.

This is the exact problem that plagues a certain populace on the server. Keep your toxic irrelevant provocations out of this thread. Mods if you want to do your job at any time feel free. This all falls under harassment.

On topic

ThisSceneIsDead hits the nail on the head. Between this change and the recent loot drop percentages this server is rapidly becoming even more unwelcome to new players. Perhaps shortsighted changes that Grima Wormtongue their way into deployment should be vetted better before they’re in the patchnotes.

There is very obviously a middle ground between having maps still be “pvp enabled” and not have loot proximity. It is what we had beforehand. No loot proximity forces players to show up on time / early with non griefing classes to do the both jobs- start racking up dmg on the mvp and keep others off it.

Thanks for expressing your opinions everyone. The poll end date has now passed, and the poll is now closed.

The staff decision is to keep the default rAthena loot behavior, which is the current behavior. (Loot teleports into highest DPSer's inventory, regardless of where they are on the map when the MVP dies.)

I know this will be heartbreaking for those of you who were in favor of MVP loot proximity.

I would also like to note that eRO is going through a bit of an identity crisis. You can read more about it in the forum post linked below. As some of you may know, our server population has been in decay for the past few weeks, even though we are still the top ranked mid-rate server on ratemyserver. Our custom mechanics are scaring away new players, and we fail to retain them when they join our server. As such I think going back to MVP loot proximity of old eRO is one of those server customs that may add to our list of newbie non-friendly custom mechanic. Imagine someone with a long history of RO, having known what @autoloot does for more than a decade from dozens of servers; to have it all of a suddenly behave differently on our server.
